a pilgrimage at the pentagon city mall in arlington, virginia. she joins us now. beautiful backdrop. what's it like over there, stacy? >> good morning. alina, you know, i'm not one of those folks that wants all the tech toys. i want to come to the mall, buy some clothes and jewelry and makeup and that's what you're going to find here. if i didn't know it was 6:00 in the morning and pitch-black outside i would think it's a normal day in the mall. in the hallways right now, somewhat sparse. george said it well when they're expecting not a gangbuster year. but the mall opened at 5:00 a.m. and there were certainly shoppers here. they have deals in every corner. a lot of people are turning to online. they have a lot of apps now where you can shop before shopping and find 9 best deals and not necessarily come to the mall and hunt and gather. you can figure out what you want before you get to the mall. but we have a steady stream of folks. i think that retailers are really hoping for some good sales. cyber monday is coming up, as you know, and they're staying busy at pentagon city. i haven't got

the 2014 handover to afghan authorities. our pentagon correspondent chris lawrence has been looking into this. what's being considered for a u.s. role in afghanistan after the scheduled pull-out? >> reporter: if you thought 2014 was going to be the end of u.s. troops' involvement, that does not look to be the case. although publicly pentagon officials say it's too early, our source, a u.s. official is telling us that there are several options being discussed inside the pentagon, one of which is to keep about 10,000 u.s. troops in afghanistan past 2014. a small number of those troops would be special operations forces that would be dedicated to counterterrorism missions. the rest of the forces would either be training or advising afghan troops or providing medical support and air support, things like that. there are other options with fewer troops, some with more troops. but this one fits right in the middle of that spectrum. he also told me that one of the deal-breakers when it came to iraq, immunity for u.s. troop, in other words, that they wouldn't be prosecuted under local laws l

combat is outdated, unfair, and actually bad for their careers. cnn pentagon correspondent barbara starr is joining us. tell us who these women are and what exactly they want changed. >> well, suzanne, these particular women are veterans of the wars in iraq and afghanistan and like many military women, they are getting very frustrated about the rules here because basically many jobs have been opened to women but women are still legally prohibited by the military from serving in front line combat positions. these women say it's keeping them from advancing in their careers and that the reality of war, of course, is that women are in combat these days. one of them even helicopter pilot, she was shot down, wounded, and got a purple heart. listen to what one of these women had to say about their concerns. >> the policy limits my future in the marine corps. i would be assigned to positions based on my gender rather than my qualifications or accomplishments. this doesn't make sense to me personally or professionally and frankly doesn't make sense to the military. >> what they are saying is, loo

at the pentagon. what do we know about the military's plans after 2014? >> most assume there will be one more fighting season next year in afghanistan beginning in the spring and going through next fall. general john allen the top u.s. commander in afghanistan reportedly wants to keep 60,000 troops through that fighting season that is most of the troops already there. now there are indication that's will recommend that the u.s. keep 10,000 troops after 2014, including 1,000 special operators to keep a lid on things. this is how defense secretary panetta recently described his vision. afghans will be in the lead throughout the country for security in mid 2013. afghans will ultimately take full responsibility for security by the end of 2014. >> the final decision will be with president obama in discussions about the way forward should begin tomorrow when secretary panetta has a teleconference call with general john allen, shep. >> isn't the real final decision the afghans to make? >> absolutely. the state department has just started negotiating a status of forces agreement with president harmid

answer to the pentagon. a city threw a bomb on to the bus or left one it is not a suicide bomber, but 10 people were injured. three of them very seriously wounded here in this attack. the two suspects on the list would be hamas or islamic jihad, both operating out of the gaza strip. hamas is peace talks and trying to figure out if a cease fire over israel with the rockets and the bombings on the other side going into the gaza strip . islamic jihad has a different agend a. they are backers in iran who are pushing for rocket fire against the gaz strip. we should have a shot up of this on our live view, you can actually see this bus that stopped. this harkens back to the days of the second intfada where you had bombing on the buses mainly suicide bombings. this doesn't appear to be that. but it is a mange failure for the israeli intelligence services in a critical time, whether it is going to derail the peace talks or not is yet to be scene. obviously the fact that secretary clinton is in town and able to be the a voice of calm could mean that everyone goes to cairo and gets involved in the

to our pentagon correspondent barbara starr. barbara, what are you learning? >> well, wolf, north korea says it is pursuing trying to launch a satellite into space. but intelligence services around the world doubt that that is true. this satellite image of a north korean missile launch pad was just snapped in the last 24 hours. u.s. government officials and private experts say it shows the same types of preparations including trucks and fuel tanks not seen since april when a long-range missile failed seconds after launch. north korea claimed then it was just trying to launch a satellite. the new digital globe image and this one taken just days before don't yet show a missile. but with these kinds of preps, a launch could happen in about three weeks if a missile is put on the launch pad according to analysis by digital globe. north korea watchers say the new leader, kim jong-un may be responding to internal political pressure from hardliners. >> on the other hand, he may also want it himself. he may decide it's the right kind of provocation just before the south korean president election
